Dress Code
"Appropriate dance apparel enhances the learning environment."
Proper dancewear is required and allows the instructor to see bodylines and correct improper placement in each of the dance disciplines. Female students should wear a leotard (any color or style) and tights (pink or tan) to all classes. Younger students may wear socks. Dance tops with pants, dance tees, dance sweaters, dance pants, dance shorts and/or skirts are also permitted - with approval of the instructor. Male students are expected to wear dance or athletic pants ard t-shirt. Street clothes are not acceptable in any class!
Class Breakdown
Ballet
Leather or canvas ballet slipper. These may be full sole or split sole. Shoes should fit snug on the foot (not too much growing room) and have elastic straps. No "look alike" house slippers.
Girls - pink, Boys black - Pointe shoes should be fitted professionally and approved by the instructor.
Jazz
Leather jazz oxford in tan. These can be either lace-up or slip-on and full sole or split sole.
(Occasionally older classes may be required to purchase a character shoe or heeled jazz shoe or other specialty footwear for Showcase performance.)
Tap
Flat, black leather shoes with toe and heel taps. No jingle taps, please. Younger students can purchase the "tie-tap" patent leather shoes. The ribbon tie should be replaced with elastic. Older students should purchase lace-up tap oxfords.
(Heeled tap shoes for the older and/or experienced tapper may be required for the Showcase performance.)
Hip Hop
Black jazz oxford or dance sneaker. No "street" shoes/sneakers.
Instructors will advise all other classes as to the proper shoe required for class and performance.
PAC has a dressing area for all students and a special PAC parents' waiting area to leave street shoes and clothes and coats while dancers are in classes. Dance shoes are not made to be worn outside and should be changed after arriving. Remember that dance apparel is like wearing a bathing suit in public - Wear cover-up clothing when coming to and leaving the studio!
